Detection
The detection of bedbugs is very much an attention to detail skill looking for trace signs and details that many people would not be able to easily identify.
All of our field based staff are given extensive training on the identification and investigation of environments for bedbug activity. This training usually takes the first two months of their employment and is an essential step before we are willing to let them work alone.
We also employ other unique approaches to the identification of infestations including:
- Installation and training on the use of passive bedbug monitors
- Scent detection dog unit to rapidly screen large areas
- Human screening teams
- House keeping staff training to detect the early warning signs
In domestic settings we invariably use human screening and detection as the initial approach whereas in commercial settings above 100 rooms the dog detection team is usually our preferred method of screening.
Our scent detection unit has been in development since September 2008 and is the first time that such a service has been available anywhere in Europe. Illustrating our continued commitment to be the leaders in the field of bedbug control. Our K9 unit is charged by the hour from travel and inspection time and work under a separate branded identify to ensure that no-one would ever realise what the nature of the work we do is.
All K9 alerts are confirmed with the physical signs of an infestation before treatment is started to ensure the alert is accurate and confirmed. In the UK this is part of the legal requirement to confirm infestations prior to treating, sadly this simple principle is not adhered to by all service providers and can result in both false positive and negative screening results.
